The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up - New Hotel and Farmers Markets

Coming in for the weekend and wondering what to do at Deep Creek? You're already here and want to be in tune with the latest and greatest? The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up is for you...
Weather, events, things to do, insider tips and info for July 4th-July 10th
THE WEATHER
The weekend looks glorious! I am not currently seeing any rain in the forecast and 70s + 80s are with sun are showing for Saturday and Sunday!
Now if we can just get past the chance of rain and storms for today, July 4th, and tomorrow.
But remember! When there is rain in the forecast, especially storms, you cannot believe the forecast too far out! Today's 4th of July forecast shows lower-than 50% chance of rain and storms this afternoon + evening, but I'm not even going to believe that just yet. It'll likely keep changing and keep pushing those chances out as the hours draw forward. (Typing this at 8am Thursday, July 4th.)
And maybe you don't even need a hoodie this weekend into next!?! Lows don't go below 60s for the next stretch of days!
SHOUTOUT
I met Duck Inn Lodge owners + hosts Mark + Alyssa earlier this week during a family photo session here at the lake. The lodge is in Whitefish, Montana and looks like a very sweet place in a very beautiful location. I've already told my husband and my mom about it! It's only 25 miles from Glacier National Park!
THINGS TO DO
DEFINITELY go to the Deep Creek Lavender Farm because it's peak bloom season! Open daily until July 15th from 10am to 5pm the farm is a must-visit place! Try the lavender lemonade and lavender ice cream and just walk around and admire the lavender plants. Owner Anne taught me years ago that you can get the most out of your lavender-sniffing experience by gently fluffing the plants.
Check out the new Cove Creek Lodge (formerly The Inn at Deep Creek)! I was invited to their open house so the kids and I stopped in for a tour. When we got in the car, Natalie said "that's the nicest hotel ever!" The place has been COMPLETELY renovated and looks like a brand new place. There are 29 rooms, an outdoor pool and a bar that's open only to hotel guests. It sits lakeside, so there's lake and dock access for all guests as well.
ALSO DEFINITELY hit the farmers markets! Deep Creek Farmers Market happens every Friday at Garrett College from 3 to 6pm. I highly recommend a pork burger from Wildom Farm, gelato from Go Go Gelato, pickles from Two Acre Farm, and super salad microgreens from Meadow Mountain Microgreens/Hemp. I also learned my friend Katie of Appalachian Wax Works will be there this Friday (the 5th) too!
The Mountain Fresh Farmers Market happens every Wednesday + Saturday in downtown Oakland from 10am to 1pm. Some friends mentioned the peaches have already arrived at this market!
The simple and short of it? They go off at Wisp Resort around 9:30pm on Thursday, July 4th with a rain date of July 5th. There's parking at Wisp Resort and many McHenry businesses. You can also park at the fairgrounds across the cove from Wisp and I believe there's a $5 or $10 charge. I would recommend getting to these locations at least an hour in advance.
If you're staying in a rental home that has a Deep Creek Drive address or if you're on the first half of Marsh Hill Road, you should be able to see the fireworks from where you are...unless you're down low and have lots of tall trees very close to you.
I've never watched the fireworks from a boat, I've always been on a dock in McHenry Cove during the show. But if I had to guess, much of the water on the west/north side of the 219 bridge may be able to see the fireworks. So if can get to or near the McHenry Cove by boat to watch, I highly recommend! Actually, seeing all the boats parked in the water at night, lit up by the colorful sky of the fireworks show, is quite a sight to see as well.
There will be traffic on the water and roads in McHenry after the fireworks, so just be slow and be aware, especially in the water. I've actually heard the boat traffic getting out of the cove was impressively smooth the past couple of years.
Here's a quick blog post I put together about the fireworks a few months ago after receiving a follower question.
