The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up - Peak Lavender and a Crayfish Crawl
Coming in for the weekend and wondering what to do at Deep Creek? You're already here and want to be in tune with the latest and greatest? The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up is for you...
Weather, events, things to do, insider tips and info for June 20th - June 26th
THE WEATHER
It's been HOT! And dry. I haven't seen rain since last Friday. I did hear on the radio that some random showers could pop in today/overnight, but the forecasts aren't showing it. Looks like we'll see rain either Sunday or Monday though, and those of us who are trying to grow gardens and flowers will very much welcome it.
I hear places 1-3 hours from us are experiencing 90s. We don't really get to that point here, maybe a few times in summer. But the upper 80s have certainly graced us with their presence this week. Lots of sun too. It's sort of felt like the beach.
You know what I'm going to say next though...make sure you bring your hoodie because I see cooler temperatures next week. Nothing super cool or cold, but maybe some evenings in the 50s.
THIS JUST IN
There's a full-time pickle vendor at the Deep Creek Farmers Market! The kids and I are going to check them out today because I hear they have lots of unique flavors!
The lavender is in peak bloom at Deep Creek Lavender Farm! Open daily from June 21st to July 15th from 10am to 5pm this is a must-visit place! Try the lavender lemonade and lavender ice cream and just walk around and admire the lavender plants. Owner Anne taught me years ago that you can get the most out of your lavender-sniffing experience by gently fluffing the plants.
WHAT WOULD I BE DOING THIS WEEKEND IF I WAS A VISITOR?
Definitely go to the lavender farm...
How about a Honi hang!? I photographed a family last night that has visited Deep Creek three times but hadn't yet heard of the Honi. Take a blanket and some chairs and plan to hang on their lawn for the afternoon. Grab some fun drinks at the bar, let the kids play on the elephant, whale and pirate ship.
Hop on a boat! We've got plenty of boat rental places - Lake Life Boat Rentals, Bill's Marine, Silver Tree Marine, Aquatic Center and Fun Time Watersports.
Try some Brewery and the Beast food in Accident! Hopefully their indoor brew space is opening soon, but until then, they're working through their mobile operation in the parking lot...and I hear the food is VERY GOOD! They have a chicken and donut sandwich that sounds incredibly intriguing! They'll be serving food Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 21-23) from 11 to 6pm.
