The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up - Farmers Markets and Some Outdoor Events

Published: May 30, 2024

Coming in for the weekend and wondering what to do at Deep Creek? You're already here and want to be in tune with the latest and greatest? The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up is for you...

Weather, events, things to do, insider tips and info for May 30th-June 5th

THE WEATHER

Funny how our Memorial Day Weekend weather turned out. Saturday became hot with lots of sun then BOOM out of nowhere, dinnertime rain...then a nighttime storm. Neither in the forecast. Sunday also resulted in a strong evening storm and Monday looked hairy scary, potential for hail and gusty winds. All we got was a quick shower at 6pm.

And now, in true #tundraofmaryland form, we're in a chilly dip. I met friends at Harbor Bar at Dutch's at Silver Tree tonight and we all had long sleeves and pants on, many of us had jackets. I had three long sleeves. The low tonight is 40.

But sunshine and no rain predicted for tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. Rain might creep in Sunday, but we'll have 70-degrees for a little while.

Remember, as you plan your summer weekends at Deep Creek, we're usually 10+ degrees colder than the surrounding areas...and in summer, we may see 50 degrees overnight. So bring a hoodie.

THIS JUST IN

Honi-Honi is now open daily at noon!

The mountainside trees at Deep Creek Lake State Park look half dead and half alive, at least when looking across the lake from 219/Garrett Highway. But Garrett County Forestry Board doesn't seem too worried. They recently shared it's because of a cankerworm outbreak and the trees may eventually have foliage this summer.

THINGS TO DO

Hit the farmers markets! Deep Creek Farmers Market happens every Friday in summer at Garrett College (across from Moonshadow) from 3 to 6pm and the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market happens every Wednesday and Saturday in downtown Oakland from 10am to 1pm.

Make a picnic! Head to FireFly Farms Market in Accident first. Load up on cheese, meat, snacks and drinks and have a picnic at the beach area in Deep Creek Lake State Park before it gets to be one of the busiest places in the county in summer. The market does have wine and some other alcoholic drinks, but alcohol is not allowed in our state parks. Plenty of unique, non-alcoholic drinks at the market, though!

Check out the Terah Crawford Band at Honi Honi on Friday, May 31st. Just the boys in the band will be there, as I learned tonight while talking to Terah, but don't worry, it'll still be very good music.
