The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up - A Grantsville Day and Flowers

Published: April 11, 2024

Coming in for the weekend and wondering what to do at Deep Creek? You're already here and want to be in tune with the latest and greatest? The Deep Creek Weekly Round-Up is for you...

Weather, events, things to do, insider tips and info for April 11th-April 17th.

Written on Thursday, April 11th...

THE WEATHER

It's a little bit of a roller coaster out there. Some warmth earlier in the week, now it's cooling down and the rain is back. 40s tomorrow, maybe some snow on Saturday morning, but then 50s during the day Saturday and almost 70 on Sunday!?

THEN Monday-Thursday looks like 70s every day!? Let's hold on to that!

THIS JUST IN

Big Sky Blooms in Accident has started seeing some tulip action and will have flowers for sale next week!

A note about locally-grown flowers: we have a lot of flower growers and farmers here in Deep Creek + Garrett County, MD, but due to our #tundraofmaryland climate, the peak of the bloom seems to be July-August, and into September. I'll be sure to share all about summer flowers when the time comes!

Deep Creek Lavender Farm has announced their opening day for the 2024 season: Friday, May 24th!

Wildom Farm has announced some of their summer events! I highly recommend considering one of their Dinner on the Farm evenings.

THINGS TO DO

It's sold out, BUT worth mentioning because I FINALLY get to go to Wine in the Woods at Savage River Lodge on Saturday! They usually have these throughout the year, so keep an eye on their calendar.

How about a day in Grantsville? You can hit up The Travel Mug for some breakfast and coffee, then walk across the road to the town park - tennis and pickleball courts, outdoor basketball courts, playgrounds, a pond for fishing, pavilions - a really nice park! You can also consider at meal at The Casselman Inn, Cornucopia Cafe or Penn Alps. Little Crossings Pantry and the Spruce Forest Artisan Village should also be on your list, and when it's not under renovation, hanging out near and under the Casselman River Bridge can be especially fun with the kids when the water is low.

LOCAL EVENTS

Celebrate the Titanic Dinner with Huckleberry's Catering - Saturday, April 13th

Alpaca Acres Spring Fling south of Oakland - Saturday, April 13th from 12 to 4pm

Follower Question: We're staying at Lake Pointe Inn for a night and want to do some shopping and visit a coffee shop in the morning. Any ideas?

Answer: Historic downtown Oakland comes to mind first! There's a bookstore, gallery shop, Englander's Antiques (and old fashion grill), Vagabond Taproom, Shoofly Java, Stephanie's Sweet Shop, 206 Alder Street Bistro, The Painted Cupboard, and Boujie Bottoms Boutique...all within a turn of the block corner! You can park and easily visit all of them! Park on Alder or 2nd street and you're set!

You can also consider The Fort in McHenry - Cashmere Clothing Co, Short Story Brewing, OMG Relax, Pine Lodge Steakhouse, Black Bear Tavern, Deep Creek Pottery, and Deep Creek Fun Zone are all within walking distance of each other.
