BEFORE YOU GET EXCITED, this is an old picture. This is not current. 😩 I just sent out a newsletter encouraging everyone to do a SNOW DANCE!

We don't have any snow left here in Garrett County and Deep Creek (just some small leftovers from our snowy December), so we need January to bring us more!

So how do you do a snow dance!? I don't believe there's anything official about it (this is just a "dance" I'm making up on my own, friends...ha!), but for me, it's all about getting excited for what's in the forecast (we should see some snow soon!) and sharing snowy pictures from past seasons!

Here's a snowy picture from January 2019 (taken just off of Wisp Mountain Road). The day after a storm...when the snow has settled and the sun comes out, is just the prettiest!

The lake has started freezing over! My friend Brooke over at @dcl.kidadventures took this picture yesterday at Deep Creek Lake State Park and I even heard from someone else that ice fishermen were out waiting to get their spots! It’s a beautifully neat thing to see...the frozen lake. After all the snow, ice, rain and melting snow we’ve had in the past few weeks, the waters at Swallow Falls State Park are raging! LOCAL INSIDER TIP: When it snows, go to Swallow Falls State Park! Even when other parts of Garrett County seem to have lost some of the snow, Swallow Falls Park holds on...and it’s like stepping into Narnia! Truly a beautiful, magical experience that I highly recommend! I haven’t made it out in the snow as much as I would like in the recent weeks, but my friend @smcall visited today with her family, despite the 14-degree temperatures...brrrr! I’d say the cold was worth it because look what she saw and captured! This is my friend Rachel. She’s a realtor with Railey at @deepcreekmd and we’ve been friends for five years. We actually met when we were both pregnant with our third babies, who would go on to be born on the same day! She and her family have been a part of our lives ever since and they love the snow so much, just like many of us here in the #tundraofmaryland 🥰 @rachstorms shared this picture of she and her daughter on social this past week when they were enjoying the snow on Winter Solstice and I knew it would make a great holiday share here on FTL, too. One of my absolute favorite things to do as a self-proclaimed Deep Creek Local Insider/Tour Guide!? Share all my tips and tricks in the Deep Creek Facebook groups! 🥰🤩 Someone recently asked about things to do with kids and family friendly restaurants for their first Deep Creek visit next week and this is what I suggested: “I vote for @mountain_state_brewing_dcl even if you aren’t able to snag an igloo! Will you be here Monday!? If so @brendaspizzeria pizza is half off! We love Candyland in Oakland...it’s in the indoor Farmers Market on 219 just past Walmart. Loads of candy and fun for all ages! Bear Creek Traders is a big, fun store to explore! Swallow Falls is an easy hike and you can see three waterfalls all in one and all are no more than 10 minutes from the parking lot! If we’ve got natural snow, give Herrington Manor State Park a call and ask about their sledding hill! I haven’t tried it yet but they’ve got lights for nighttime fun! And Deep Creek Funzone could be a place to try. Food, drinks, arcade games, laser tag. I believe I just saw they have a $24.99 deal for kids - unlimited two hour play that includes laser tag! If you’ll be here on a Saturday or Sunday, @thecornucopiacafe in Grantsville is going to start having bonfires from 2-6pm outside their restaurant! Grab one of their drinks to go and enjoy the fire!
